Course Overview

The Defensive Carbine Course is tailored for shooters with a basic foundation in carbine skills who want to advance their abilities into confident, capable defenders. This program leverages the principles of motor learning science to transition participants from foundational proficiency to real-world readiness, emphasizing precision, adaptability, and decision-making under dynamic conditions.

Through deliberate practice and context-driven exercises, participants will refine essential skills such as recoil management, sight alignment, tactical movement, and situational awareness. The course seamlessly progresses from closed-skill drills to open-skill scenarios, allowing shooters to build consistency and precision while adapting to real-world challenges. Emphasis is placed on managing stress, prioritizing targets, and making effective decisions under pressure.

  • Fundamentals Refinement: Structure, Recoil Management, Target Engagement.
  • Movement: Techniques for shooting while moving and engaging targets effectively.
  • Position: Shooting from unconventional and tactical positions.
  • Situational Awareness: Enhancing observation, threat detection, and target prioritization.
  • Decision-Making: Building confidence in time-sensitive and high-pressure defensive judgments.

 

Skill Progression:

  • Day 1: Establishing foundational performance through closed-skill drills.
  • Day 2: Transitioning to dynamic, open-skill scenarios that simulate real-world defensive situations.

 

Primary Gear List

  • Firearm: A modern semi-automatic carbine with a capacity of at least 20 rounds.
  • Optics: A reliable red dot or low-power variable optic (LPVO) is recommended.
  • Magazines: At least three magazines, with a carrying system for quick access.
  • Ammunition: Minimum of 800 rounds.
  • Sling: A quality two-point adjustable sling is required.
  • Eye and Ear Protection: Ballistic-rated eye protection (clear and tinted) and electronic hearing protection.
  • Support Gear: Water, snacks, sunscreen, and appropriate range attire.

Registration Information

  • Time and Location: Training begins promptly at 0900. Arrive early to prepare gear. Range location and details will be included in your confirmation email.
  • Range Fees: To be paid on-site the morning of the course.
  • Eligibility: By registering, participants certify that they meet the legal requirements for firearm possession and are of appropriate age for this training.

 

Class Cancellation Policy

In the rare event of a class cancellation (e.g., inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances), participants will receive a full refund or credit toward a future course.

Student-Initiated Changes:

  • Notice given 7+ days prior to the class date qualifies for a full credit transfer to another course.
  • Less than 7 days’ notice: No refunds or credits will be issued.
